On my way into Jakarta from the airport our bus drove over a large new overpass. I couldn't help but notice the slum that sprouted out from beneath it. So I decided to come back and find this new slum after working on the floating fishing hut story in Southwest Java.
Jembatan Tiga is the name given the slum since it begins near its namesake bus stop in northwest Jakarta. The most astonishing aspects to this slum were its organization of clean water transport and household goods. There was a freshly dug well and specially built carts for moving 5 gallon water jugs, in addition to pool tables, video games and much more.
I spent three days shooting here and the people were simply wonderful to me. It was a great experience and I hope to return soon.
